Pern is about to enter the 4th pass, but the horrors of the dragon plague of the 3rd pass are all but forgotten. Telgar weyr still stands empty, declared a hazard zone, even though the plague was 250 years ago, the riders won't risk any infection. The remaining weyrfolk and riders from telgar were taken in by the other weyrs and telgars lands were devided under the newly restored Igen, and fort weyr.
3 turns before the start of the 4th pass, a clutch of a staggering 41 eggs hatch at Benden Weyr, amongst which is one queen egg. But there is something very strange about the hatchlings. The first oddity is a little black dragonet, the only one in its kind. he is shotly followed by 5 rather palid and feeble dragonets, and the queen is last to hatch, almost incapable of thawing out of her shell, but when she does and impresses upon the young Janilla of Tillek their in for quite a shock, as the queen insists she's a green.
the black dragonet and the colorblind queen had the weyr in an uproar, no one sure what to do with them, some even suggesting that the little queens wings should be clipped to weed out this genetic error and make sure it doesnt spread. Benden Senior queen voices her disagreement, but when the 5 palid dragonets, who ectualy seemed to do well, die without a warning old fear surface and the entire clutch is send to Telgar weyr, to isolate them from the healthy dragons.
But even now, after 4 turns the renegade clutch send to telgar survives, the weyr is clean and ordily once more and the clutch fully mature. and able to meet fall when it will arrive. And with black dust in the skies above crom, thread will soon make its appearance. But can the titheless Telgar weyr rally its old holds under its wings again? Or will they be shunned by both weyr and hold?
Welcome to Telgars Renegades!
